Casino operator, Boyd Gaming, which partners with sportsbook operator FanDuel in its regional casinos, has announced the signing of a long term sports betting technology agreement with International Game Technology. Through this deal, IGT will be providing its sports platform for Boyd Gaming’s retail sportsbook in Nevada, which will be another addition to its online sports betting, online casinos, and sports app in Nevada. Besides, Boyd Gaming is also aiming to deploy Playsports kiosks all over its Nevada venues. The two companies have agreed to a phased approach that will be used to roll out the features.
IGT also makes gaming machines, and it also provides services and technology for lotteries. The company runs a dozen gaming venues in the southern part of the silver state.

How Will Players Benefit from This Partnership?
This partnership aims at giving players a progressive and more robust sports betting program. In addition to this, the platform will also enable the company to offer better back-end system navigation, and also to seamlessly update the app’s content in line with the betting trends, and real-time data. Another exciting factor for players to look out for is that they will be able to enjoy a wide range of new conveniences, features, and bets. The partnership proves to be very exciting for the Nevada casino lovers as they can look forward to playing quality casino games with a lot of improved features and simplicity.
Strengthening the Relationship between Boyd and IGT
It is not the first time IGT and Boyd are partnering to make a deal. The two companies have a relationship that dates back to 2018, the year where Boyd sportsbooks used Playsports infrastructure in Iowa, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Mississippi. The operator of Sam’s Town and The Orleans in Las Vegas runs twenty-nine gaming venues in ten different states. Out of those ten, six of them have legal sports wagering. These are Mississippi, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. In November, Pelican voters are set to consider a sports wagering ballot proposal that will need approval based on parish-by-parish, and not at the statewide level. Boyd runs five casinos from this state.
Other Recent Deals by IGT
At the beginning of this month, IGT announced the expansion of its partnership with FanDuel. FanDuel is the company that runs Boyd’s sportsbooks, and the partnership is set to run through September 2024. In the deal, FanDuel will also offer IGT’s PlayCasino games in states that permit casinos. However, the financial terms of the agreement weren’t disclosed. The two companies also teamed up soon after the 2018 Supreme Court ruling on the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act. These deals have helped Boyd garner some praise from the investment community for partnering with reputable companies like IGT and FanDuel.
Boyd, which operates twenty-nine casinos in ten states, is yet to reopen three of its casinos in Las Vegas. These casinos were closed in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this week, Boyd requested that Henderson make the operating licenses for its small Eldorado casino non-operational. Other Boyd’s casinos that remain closed are the Eastside Cannery in eastern Las Vegas and the Main Street Station in downtown. The lack of customer demand was the reason for the closure, as confirmed by Boyd’s executives.
What This Partnership Means for Nevada
Nevada considers itself as the most mature and high volume sports destination in the United States of America. Therefore, this partnership will create something new in the market that will be sure to stand apart in the region. The Playsports platform will enable Boyd gaming to differentiate its sports betting product in ways that will position it to grow revenue and attract new players in the region.
